MissionKeeping Us Secure & Prosperous (K.U.S.P.) is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit dedicated to increasing access to emergency food and preparedness while cultivating sustainable, community-driven solutions. Through urban agriculture, education, and holistic programs, we strengthen disadvantaged communities by ensuring that every household has access to fresh food, essential resources, and the tools needed to thrive in times of crisis and beyond.
Vision
Our vision is a resilient, sustainable community where every individual has equitable access to nutritious food, opportunities for growth, and the knowledge to lead fulfilling lives. By integrating emergency food support, urban agriculture, and long-term resilience strategies, we seek to reduce the stressors that contribute to instability and violence. Why We Do What We Do
|
According to Abraham Maslow, human needs were arranged in a hierarchy, with physiological (survival) needs at the bottom, and the more creative and intellectually oriented ‘self-actualization’ needs at the top.
Our most basic need is for physical survival, and this will be the first thing that motivates our behavior. Once that level is fulfilled, the next level up is what motivates us, and so on. The human body cannot function optimally if physiological needs are not satisfied. Maslow considered physiological needs the most important as all the other needs become secondary until these needs are met. We are determined to make sure that our community, no matter what their socio-economic status, gets the food and other foundational physiological needs. We believe that by making sure that this happens we are not only decreasing the hunger but also community violence in Hampton Roads. |
