Why We Do What We Do
According to Abraham Maslow, human needs were arranged in a hierarchy, with physiological (survival) needs at the bottom, and the more creative and intellectually oriented ‘self-actualization’ needs at the top.
Our most basic need is for physical survival, and this will be the first thing that motivates our behavior. Once that level is fulfilled, the next level up is what motivates us, and so on.
The human body cannot function optimally if physiological needs are not satisfied. Maslow considered physiological needs the most important as all the other needs become secondary until these needs are met.
We are determined to make sure that our community, no matter what their socio-economic status, gets the food and other foundational physiological needs. We believe that by making sure that this happens we are not only decreasing the hunger but also community violence in Hampton Roads.

Programs To Help & Systems To Build
At K.U.S.P., we are dedicated to developing comprehensive initiatives aimed at assisting communities in accessing food, while also giving people access to nutrition education and emergency preparedness training. While we prioritize addressing immediate needs like food insecurity, we recognize that true empowerment extends beyond mere survival.
Which is why we're committed to fostering sustainable solutions that enable individuals to transition from simply surviving to thriving. Our approach involves not only providing emergency access to food but also establishing a supportive ecosystem through our K.U.S.P. Preparedness & Readiness Education Programof support, where community members can access the tools needed to build a foundation for long-term success.
